Holguín is ready to face the current fuel contingency in the country

The province of Holguín has strengths and the experience of its energy councils, along with the support of different organizations, to cope with the current situation of the country regarding such vital indicator of the economy, the electricity company executives confirmed at this level.

The eastern territory is distinguished as the one with the greatest capacity to generate installed energy in Cuba, along with the measures to avoid excessive expenses which will  maintain the current levels of services with the least possible impact on the different entities and the population in general.

Héctor Lugo Graña, general director of the provincial electricity company, commented that in addition to these particularities, it is important to know the consumption statistics in the different sectors and at the same time the trends in the behavior of these indicators in recent times.

In his clarifications, as part of the response of this sector to the orientations of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, broadcasted last Wednesday through the Round Table, Lugo said that Holguín is stable in the management of all spheres , whose groups will strengthen their joint actions to have the least possible amount of affectations.

Subsequently, he stressed that measures will be apply to the more than 12 thousand clients of the state branch in order to reduce electricity expenditure, as well as in homes, an important method to comply with the services in general offered by the electricity sector in the province.

In particular, he stressed that before this special situation, as defined by the Cuban President, actions will be carried out to protect large water pumps in order to supply the Holguín people, in addition to vital centers such as hospitals and blood banks, while companies and institutions will be rigorously required to keep only their indispensable lights on.

The orientations in that context, he added, will be also aimed at turning off the air conditioning equipment that does not affect valuable productions and readjusting the internal operation of each entity, according to the possibilities in energy allocations.

Referring to the 357 thousand 082 users belonging to the residential sector, he explained that they reach 55% of provincial consumption, and recommended the awareness and implementation of actions to displace electric peaks, which will result in less diesel use.

Holguín owns one hundred percent of electrification and stands out as an energy power, since it has the Felton thermoelectric plant, the largest in the country, an extensive network of generator sets, moreover it advances in the use of renewable energy sources.
